Shujaa will face Georgia, Tonga and Portugal in Uruguay.

Shujaa co-captain Tony Omondi has analysed Pool A opponents ahead of the upcoming Challenger Series in Montevideo, Uruguay this weekend, as the side aims to build from their tournament victory in Dubai.

Kenya Sevens are seeking to return to the HSBC SVNS at the first time of asking, having suffered humiliating relegation in 2023 after 19 years.

Omondi, who has been a key fly-half for the side since his debut in 2021, has explained the strengths that their fellow Pool A opponents, Portugal, Georgia, and Tonga possess, and how they are going to mitigate them.

“If you look at our pool, it has all types of playing styles,” Omondi told Pulse Sports.

“Portugal are dynamic, they have a speeder on the outside and steppers in the middle. If you look at Tonga, they are slightly similar to Portugal but more physical.

“When you come to Georgia, they disappointed Uruguay. I think we will take it one game at a time. Approaching each game with the kind of approach it requires.”

Omondi has explained how Shujaa will manage to overcome these tricky opponents.

“If it is the Tonga game, we know we have to be physical. Match theirs and come out on top. If it’s Portugal, same, we have to match their agility and movement.

"If it is Georgia. Same same, but we have plans to play with each and every team and focus on a game at a time.

“I want to lead the team by example, lead the team with actions, and hope that they pick that up from me and advance to our targets.”

Holding the pole position with 20 points, Kenya has a slender lead over Chile, setting up a thrilling contest in Montevideo as they aim to extend their advantage and fortify their dominance in the series.
