Walukuba Barbarians won their first Nile Special National sevens circuit after putting away Black Pirates 19-12 in the Mileke 7s final in Tororo on Sunday.

The Barbarians were a beneficiary of a boardroom decision that stripped off Kobs their opening 33-7 victory in the opening game before winning their remaining group matches to emerge Group C leaders.

Kobs had fielded a Kiira Crocs player, Eugene Ikaaba.

Walukuba dispatched Impis 17-12 in the quarterfinals before sending a warning of their intentions by seeing off Heathens 14-12 in the semis to book Pirates in the final.

The Pirates looked rusty in the early exchanges after an energy-sapping 17-12 victory over the tournament's surprise package Tororo Crest.

Walukuba was the better side in the early exchanges and could've gone up inside the opening three minutes, but minor errors pegged them.

Bob Kawanda unlocked what quickly turned into a ping-pong affair as Sydney Gongodyo replied to equalise almost immediately with a try for the Pirates.

Captain Edward Emiemu wrong-footed a defender to cross the line moments later, but, again, Paul Bogota answered almost immediately to tie the game 12-up.

Walukuba had the last laugh in the final minute of the game after a good run by Emiemu but dropped the ball where it mattered most. However, Gift Wokorach slid through and touched down and dealt with the extras to give the Jinja side a seven-point lead as the referee blew the final whistle.

Black Pearls beat Avengers 21-7 in the ladies' final to edge closer to the championship.

Wokorach and Emily Lekuru were named the respective most valuable players of the season.
