The Oilers' head coach noted that there were so many areas that prohibited them from displaying a better performance.
During their semifinal match against KCB on Saturday 4 March at the KCB Sports Club, Menengai Oilers lost 38-20, and therefore could not proceed to the Kenya Cup final.
Oilers head coach, Gibson Weru, noted that there were so many areas that prohibited them from displaying a better performance. He added that they did not train hard ahead of the clash.
Weru lauded KCB, saying they were a good opponent and their experience worked well for them.
In last year’s semifinal clash against KCB, Oilers put up a good fight to win 24-17 but the tables turned this time round.
The Nakuru-based side had a great start to the season winning five of their matches before falling 16-17 to Blak Blad. They went ahead to lose 21-25 to Strathmore Leos, 16-52 to KCB and 13-15 to Kabras Sugar.
“Our set pieces were not strong enough and we struggled. Our defense also let us down. I also think we didn’t work hard enough ahead of this game. It was not a performance we are proud of,” Weru said.
He termed the season as a roller coaster owing to how they lacked consistency in their performances. He, however, noted that every loss was an eye opener for the team and going forward, they know the areas of improvement.
“It was a bit too late in terms of recovery but we hope to bounce back better next season,” the tactician said.
