Kenya Sevens players are set to boost their bank balances significantly after being rewarded Ksh3 by President William Ruto.
President William Ruto has rewarded the Kenya Sevens team with Ksh3 million following their brilliant performance at the Africa Sevens which saw them earn qualification for the 2024 Paris Olympics.
Shujaa beat South Africa 17-12 in the Cup final of the tournament in Harare, Zimbabwe on Sunday to make it three straight appearances at the Olympics against all odds when most had identified the Blitzboks as the heavy favourites.

“Our reward scheme does not allow us to reward qualifiers but because you have done well, the President has a token of appreciation from you,” the Sports Cabinet Secretary told players when he hosted them for breakfast on Tuesday morning.
“Each player of the 24-member squad will receive Ksh200,000 while each of the technical bench members will receive Ksh100,000. This is in the spirit of Talanta Hela pesa mfukoni.”

Patrick Odongo was the hero in the final with his brace of tries doing the trick for Shujaa. He scored the opening try for Kenya which was converted for a 7-0 lead before South Africa responded with two quick tries, one converted, for a 12-7 lead at the break.
Odongo then scored his second of the game to tie the scores 12-12 after the break before John Okoth extended Shujaa’s lead to 17-12 and they held on to claim a memorable win.
