Stanbic Black Pirates will need at least a semifinal appearance at the Kyabazinga 7s to emerge champions of the 2023 Nile Special National Rugby Sevens.

Stanbic Black Pirates are now a step away from winning their second Nile Special National Sevens title after finishing second in the Mileke Border 7s held in Tororo over the weekend.

The Sea Robbers were on course to winning the circuit but Walukuba Barbarians shocked them to lose 19-12 ahead of the final leg to be hosted in Bugembe, Jinja.

The Bugembe circuit, dubbed the Kyabazinga Sevens, will be hosted by Walukuba from Saturday 2nd and Sunday 3rd September.

By finishing second, Pirates garnered 19 points which takes their total from the six legs to 112 points.

Their closest challengers Heathens and Kobs follow from a distance with 101 and 99, respectively despite falling short in Tororo.

Heathens finished third while Kobs, who were eliminated from the quarterfinal stage by Pirates, settled for seventh.

Defending champions Jinja Hippos with 88 points, are mathematically out of contention despite finishing fourth.

In the ladies’ category, Black Pearls will have to take care of Avengers who are the only threat to their title hopes.

The Pearls sit top of the table with 124 points, six ahead of Avengers while Thunderbirds and Nile Rapids follow with 102 and 92 points respectively.
