Football clubs are not just organizations that bring people together but have also become massive businesses generating revenue from everything, including merchandise, tickets etc.

Here are some of the wealthiest clubs in Africa, including their current marketing value.

Al Ahly- Egypt (Shs118B)

Founded on 24 April 1907 as a gathering place for student unions, the Egyptian club has dominated since its inception making them a force to be reckoned with.

The 'red devils' sit atop Africa's most valuable club, and it's no surprise that it resulted from their success on the pitch.

Voted Africa's 'Club of the Century', they are Africa's most successful club side with 118 trophies to their name, including 11 CAF Champions League titles.

Domestically, they have won a record of 42 league titles as well as 38 Egyptian titles and 13 Egyptian Super League titles.

Mamelodi Sundowns- South Africa (Shs109B)

Sundowns football club originated around Marabastad, a cosmopolitan area in Pretoria, by a group of youngsters.

"The Brazilians" are South Africa's most successful league side, with a record 13 titles since its inception in 1996 and have won 16 in total.

Owned by businessman Patrice Motsepe, they are the first club to win the CAF Champions League and CAF Women's Champions League in 2016 and 2021.

Founded in 1911, Zamalek Sporting Club is one of Egypt's oldest and most successful football clubs.

The club has won the Egyptian Premier League 14 times and the CAF Champions League five times. Zamalek is also known for its fierce rivalry with Al Ahly.

Wydad Casablanca- Morocco (Shs77.2B)

Wydad Athletic Club is one of the most successful football clubs in Morocco. The club has won the Botola 19 times and the CAF Champions League twice.

They were founded on 8 May 1937 by seven Moroccans belonging to the national movement for independence, led by Mohamed Benjelloun Touimi.

They initially focused on water polo to give indigenous Moroccans the right to access swimming pools before Mohamed Ben Lahcen Affani – also known by the nickname of "Père Jégo" ("Father Jégo") – created the football section in 1939. He was the first manager of the team.

Esperance de Tunis was Espérance Sportive de Tunis has won the Tunisian Ligue Professionnelle 1 32 times and the CAF Champions League four times.

The club is most known for its football squad, which competes in the Tunisian Professional League 1 and is one of the most well-liked clubs in Tunisia and is regarded as a powerhouse on the continent.
