Chiamaka Okwuchukwu, a 19-year-old Nigerian striker and finalist for CAF Young Women's Player of the Year has joined NWSL side San Diego Wave FC.

Okwuchukwu leaves Rivers Angels FC, a team in the first flight of the Nigerian Women's Premier League, to join via transfer for an unknown sum.
After completing a medical and receiving her P1 Visa and International Transfer Certificate (ITC), Okwuchukwu will be included to the Wave's 2025 roster.
Okwuchukwu will start the upcoming season with the NWSL team after agreeing to a one-year contract that runs through 2025.
Okwuchukwu in a statement by San Diego Wave FC Sporting Director and General Manager Camille Ashton was welcomed to the club.
She said, “We are very pleased to welcome Chiamaka to the Wave family.
“Her signing is the latest example of our intention to add promising young players to the roster.
"With her skillset, we believe Chiamaka will complement our current attacking players very well and be a key contributor to the team.”

After playing in all four games for the Nigeria U-20 Women's National Team at the 2024 FIFA U-20 Women's World Cup in Colombia, where she scored two goals and provided one assist, Okwuchukwu is coming off an outstanding performance.
At the age of 16, Okwuchukwu previously played for Nigeria in the FIFA U-20 Women's World Cup in Costa Rica in 2022.
She helped Nigeria get to the quarterfinals of that event, where they lost to the Netherlands.
San Diego's 2025 roster will include an international spot for Okwuchukwu.
