The multi-award-winning Nigerian singer has opened up on his special relationship with five time Ballon d'Or winner, Cristiano Ronaldo.
Cristiano Ronaldo is one of the most famous human beings on the planet.
The 38-year-old Portugal international who currently plays for Saudi League club Al-Nassr, is the most-followed human being in the world, and the most-followed sportsperson on Instagram.
The five-time Ballon d’Or winner is also the highest-paid football player in the world, the highest-paid athlete in the world, and one of the richest footballers in the world.
David Adeleke popularly known by his stage name ‘Davido’ has opened up on his relationship with the legendary striker.
The Nigerian singer, songwriter, and record producer recently spoke in an interview on the perks of fame and likened his situation to that of the Portuguese superstar.
Davido opens up on his relationship with Cristiano Ronaldo
Speaking in an interview with the host of Dubai-based show #AB Talks, Anas Bukhash, the ‘Unavailable’ crooner opened up on his struggles with fame.
Davido who is the most-followed African musician on social media opened up on his retirement plans and his fears as one of Africa’s biggest exports.
He said:
‘It’s crazy being on top of the world and the next moment, you’re not. Even with soccer, with football, you win all these awards, you win the Champions League, you win the World Cup, and people don’t still feel like it’s enough?’
On his relationship with Cristiano Ronaldo, Davido said:
‘Look at Ronaldo…when he left the World Cup, he’s my friend by the way, he’s my very good friend.
‘When he left the World Cup (Qatar 2022), I remember like being on the internet, and they were abusing him so much….after everything he has done. That’s my greatest fear.’
Recall that Davido is the only Nigerian musician currently being followed by Cristiano Ronaldo.
Following the release of his 2017 global smash hit, Fall, the Atlanta-born singer took to social media to express his excitement after Portugal forward followed him on Instagram.
This came after a popular verse on the song stated that people call him ‘Cristiano’.
According to Rolling Stone magazine, "Fall" was one of the top-100-most-Shazam-searched singles in America in January 2019, and was a top-10 record on Shazam in New York.
In February 2019, "Fall" became the longest-charting Nigerian pop song in Billboard history.
It was ranked at number 163 on Pitchfork's list of the 200 Best Songs of the 2010s.
As of May 2023, "Fall" has reportedly surpassed over 82 million streams on Spotify, and has been certified platinum by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) and gold by Music Canada.
