Uganda swept away Singapore with an emphatic 79-37 victory in the opening group-stage match.

Singer Eddy Kenzo is all praises for the Uganda women's senior national netball team as they opened their 2023 Netball World Cup campaign on July 28 in Cape Town, South Africa.

The She Cranes Starting Seven against Singapore

In a dominant display, the She Cranes comfortably led through the four quarters as they started on the right foot forward.

Kenzo backed the She Cranes for victory in the tournament, taking one game at a time.

"A huge win for the She Cranes on Matchday one in the Netball World Cup in South Africa. Uganda 79- 37 Singapore," he posted on his Facebook page.

"We are proud of you girls. Make us proud one game at a time."

The She Cranes side playing the World Cup without experienced stars Peace Proscovia and Stella Oyella were not short of quality.

Making her World Cup debut, Haniisha Muhammed led the She Cranes offensive, scoring 31 of her 35 attempts. Another debutant Christine Namulumba netted 15/15 (100%).

Familiar faces completed the onslaught, with Shadia Nassanga netting 12/13 (92.3%), Mary Nuba scored 17/19 (89.5%), and Irene Eyaru scored 7/7.

Uganda will face World champions New Zealand on Saturday; the latter defeated Trinidad and Tobago 76-27 in the competition's opening game.
