LeBron James who is the only active billionaire player in the NBA has told Twitter CEO Elon Musk he will not pay a dime to keep his Blue tick following the new verification policy.
LeBron James has responded to the new Twitter verification policy slated to begin today, April 1, 2023.
South African Twitter CEO Elon Musk announced a controversial measure that fully affects users who also have the famous blue tick in their profiles, which endorses the verified accounts of a slew of celebrities or public figures.
Musk said that users with this badge are mandated to pay from April 1 a fee, if they want to keep on to this exclusive badge in the header of their individual Twitter profiles.
This development which has been met with criticism from the Twitter space and a host of celebrities has also not sat very well with NBA and Lakers superstar LeBron James, who is currently one of the richest athletes in the world and the most followed basketballer on Instagram.
‘I’m not going to pay’
LeBron James is now the latest of celebrities to disagree with Twitter’s new verification policy adopted by the billionaire and head of Twitter, Elon Musk.
The Los Angeles Lakers superstar who is the NBA's all-time leading scorer, has publicly shown his disagreement and also assured that his blue tick will disappear in the next few hours since he will not pay the money that is required to keep the badge on his Twitter profile.
"Well, I guess my blue will disappear soon because, if you know me, I'm not going to pay," the forward tweeted on Friday night, March 31.
King James’ tweet which has currently exceeded 226,000 'likes', has been backed by several celebrities such as Rachel Nicols and Tim Young who are in a similar situation as the NBA legend.
This would not be the first time LeBron has publicly hit out at Elon Musk.
The Ohio native and NBA’s all-time leading scorer once charged against the South African billionaire because a user, who paid to be verified on Twitter, impersonated him for several days.
