In their opener of the 2024 FIFA U-17 Women's World Cup, Nigeria's Flamingos demolished New Zealand 4-1.

Nigeria's under-17 women's national team known as the Flamingos had a winning start to their campaign on the world stage.

The team led by head coach Bankole Olowookere recorded a 4-1 victory against their counterparts from New Zealand.

The Flamingos who won a bronze medal at the last edition in India started hot and took the lead as early as the second minute when Shakirat Abidemi Moshood converted a ball through by Harmony Chidi.

In the 13th minute, Khadijat Taiwo Adegoke scored the second for the Flamingos assisted by Faridat Abdulwahab.

Abdulwahab would score the third in the 28th minute assisted by Moshood.

The Flamingos went to the break with a three-goal lead and were more subtle in the second half.

In the 55th minute, the Flamingos got their fourth through Taiwo Tewogbola Afolabi assisted by Adegoke.

New Zealand would pull one back in the 60th minute, when Hannah Aimee Saxon scored assisted by Ela Jerez.
