In a friendly encounter played in the Dominican Republic, the Flamingos and their Mexican opponents drew 1-1.
The friendly encounter served as preparation for this year's FIFA U-17 women's World Cup in the Dominican Republic for the team led by coach Bankole Olowookere.
Nigeria's campaign started against New Zealand on October 16, 2024, but they gave other group games against hosts, the Dominican Republic, Ecuador, and New Zealand in Group A.
Flamingos placed third at the 2022 FIFA U-17 women's World Cup in India, and they plan to improve for this tournament.
Flamingos beat New Zealand
The Flamingos had a winning start to their campaign on the world stage.
The team led by head coach Bankole Olowookere recorded a 4-1 victory against their counterparts from New Zealand.
They took the lead as early as the second minute when Shakirat Abidemi Moshood converted a ball through by Harmony Chidi.
In the 13th minute, Khadijat Taiwo Adegoke scored the second for the Flamingos assisted by Faridat Abdulwahab.
Abdulwahab would score the third in the 28th minute assisted by Moshood.
In the 55th minute, the Flamingos got their fourth through Taiwo Tewogbola Afolabi assisted by Adegoke.
New Zealand would pull one back in the 60th minute when Hannah Aimee Saxon scored assisted by Ela Jerez.
Ecuador beats Dominican Republic
In the other group game, Ecuador recorded a comfortable victory against the tournament host Dominican Republic.
It took just 14 minutes for Ecuador to go in front through a goal by Jaslym Esther Valverde Tenerio.
Tenerio got her second of the game in the 29th minute assisted by Camacho Roldan.
The hosts were not able to score as Ecuador held on for the win.

The Flamingos face hosts Dominican Republic, Ecuador and New Zealand in their group.
The game between the Flamingos of Nigeria and Ecuador is scheduled for Saturday, October 19, 2024.
Scheduled for the Cibao Stadium, the game will kick off at 9 PM Nigerian time and be available on FIFA plus and StarTimes.
