For using his water bottle while driving, Nigerian-born Abiola Omobamidele has been charged in court.

The 20-year-old star for the Norwich City Canaries has been accused of not having adequate control of a vehicle after an incident on the B1172 near Hethersett when he was driving a Range Rover Sport.

Omobamidele, according to the prosecution, began to drive while steering the vehicle with only one hand on the wheel as he approached an intersection and got ready to make a turn.

Due to the event, which occurred on May 5, 2013, at 11 a.m., five days after the Canaries' Premier League relegation was officially announced, the football player was given a driving course and a conditional offer of a fixed penalty.

The Republic of Ireland player will now be present at a hearing before Norwich Magistrates Court on May 31 when he may be subject to a sizable fine and a driving ban.

It's not a new offense to not be in good control of a car, which can involve doing things like applying makeup, using a phone, or eating or drinking while operating the vehicle.

Three penalty points and a £100 fine are likely to be assessed to drivers who commit the offense.

But after being submitted to the magistrates court, drivers risk having their fines significantly increased and perhaps losing their driving privileges.

He renewed his contract with Carrow Road last year, extending it through 2026.

But according to media sources, Premier League teams like Leicester and Nottingham Forest have been keeping an eye on him in case they want to recruit him.
