Ghana striker Raphael Dwamena is dead after on-pitch collapse
Raphael Dwamena, a striker for Ghana, passed away at the age of 28 after passing out on the field during an Albanian league game.
On Saturday, Dwamena was playing for Egnatia versus Partizani and the situation occurred.
The Albanian Football Federation (AFL) reported that He unfortunately passed away despite the immediate intervention of specialist doctors.
With nine goals this season, Dwamena led all scorers in the Albanian league.
All of this week's scheduled games in Albania have been postponed by the federation, including the abandoned match on Saturday.
Ghana pays tribute to Dwamena
The Ghana Football Association (GFA) expressed its sincere sympathies to his family during this trying time.
GFA President Kurt Edwin Simeon Okraku said in a statement that he demonstrated class whenever he represented Ghana and served his country well.
A planned £14 million transfer to Brighton was shelved in 2017 after Dwamena's physical was negative.
Later on, he played on loan for Real Zaragoza and for Levante in La Liga.
After collapsing during his team Blau-Weiss Linz's cup match against Hartberg in Austria in 2021, he bounced back to continue his career.
He apparently had an automated defibrillator inserted and underwent a heart procedure.
After starting his career as a young player at Red Bull Salzburg, Raphael Dwamena played for teams including FC Zurich, Levante, and Real Zaragoza.
