Ekong threatens Super Eagles won't play Libya: Nigerian captain explains how authorities maltreated them
According to Super Eagles of Nigeria captain William Troost-Ekong, they will not play the AFCON 2025 against the Mediterranean Knights following how Libyan officials treated them.
The historic city in Northern Nigeria will serve as a fuel stop for their chartered aircraft before it continues on to Abuja and finally Lagos.
The mistreatment the Super Eagles experienced upon their arrival in Libya led them to decide against playing the home team in tomorrow's 2025 AFCON Group D qualifier.

Following the NFF's protests, CAF agreed to look into the situation and take appropriate measures.
Ekong on Super Eagles return
Super Eagles captain William Troost-Ekong lamented their treatment in Libya and took to social media to express delight at his return to Nigeria.

He posted photos of his arrival along with a meal of fufu and egusi.
Along with the photos was a message that said, "BACK HOME 🇳🇬 SAFE & SOUND.
"Proud of this team, NAIJA SPIRIT can’t be broken.

"Throw at us what you want, it’s in our blood to overcome. Ive seen a lot in my 10 years with this group, but nothing like this, an experience that has brought us even closer TOGETHER.
"The video was last night 6 hours after the surprise landing in an abandoned airport with no food, drink or connection to let loved ones know we had arrived. Still finding a way to stay together, positive and fuelling our spirit.
"As things escalated, this time overcoming meant taking a stand for what’s right regardless of the consequences. No team should be mistreated this way. Football is about respect, and that starts by respecting ourselves.

"My last words about this and I look forward to continue our journey to the AFCON 2025 next month in November on the right way.
"Our goal of doing the best for Nigerian football won’t ever change."
The Super Eagles are expected to depart for their various club sides from Lagos before the end of the week.
