See how Super Eagles defender Chidozie Awaziem was full of joy after Hajduk beat Sibenik to win Croatian Cup
The Croatian Cup final between Hajduk and Sibenik took place late on May 25, 2023, at Rujevica Stadium.
Hajduk is celebrating the Croatian Cup trophy twice for the first time.
Hajduk vs Sibenik
Hajduk was the heavy favorite and was also in excellent form; they hadn't lost in six games and hadn't let up a goal.
The fact that Hajduk had the chance to win the Cup two seasons in a row for the first time in 18 years made the Cup final very special for the team.
The crowd cheered loudly for Hajduk, and the majority of the east stand was occupied by Split supporters.
Ibenik supporters, who had purchased a small number of tickets for the championship game, took up the north stand.
There were about 6,500 supporters present at Rujevica, so it wasn't completely sold out, but the energy was fantastic.
Before Dario Melnjak scored the game's first goal in the 62nd minute, there were no goals in the first half.
Five minutes into extra time, Marko Livaja converted a penalty shot to secure the victory.
It's interesting because, on Sunday, the two clubs play again in the league's championship game.
Ibenik has been dropped from the first league, while Hajduk has already earned second place.
Chidozie Awaziem celebrates Croatian Cup
Super Eagles of Nigeria defender Chidozie Awaziem celebrated the victory on his official social media accounts.
Awaziem featured for 90 minutes as Hajduk Split did not concede a goal in the final.
