In their most recent match, Nigeria trounced Ethiopia 5-1 overall, and with a victory, they would look to maintain their incredible record of qualifying for every WAFCON since the tournament's founding in 1998.

Prior to the pivotal match on Monday, the team's coach, Justin Madugu, released the list to the public, as per an NFF press release.

Ashleigh Plumptre now with Al-Ittihad of Saudi Arabia, was left off the roster despite the fact that other well-known players were also called up including Newcomer Omorinsola Babajide.

The team's homegrown stars are Bayelsa Queens' Rihanat Kasali, Robo Queens' Esther Onyenezide, and Remo Stars' Akudo Ogbonna.

Super Falcons replacements

After forward Asisat Oshoala and midfielder Jennifer Echegini voluntarily avoided the Super Falcons team and coach Justin Madugu was forced to select replacements.

The two players received their plane tickets to fly to Nigeria a full week before they made their announcement on Saturday that they wouldn't be able to join the team, according to NFF Assistant Director (Technical), Abdulrafiu Yusuf.

In addition to attacker Ifeoma Onumonu, who asked to be left off due to injury, midfield mainstay Halimatu Ayinde is still sidelined due to injury. She missed Ethiopia's 2024 Olympics qualifying match last month.

Michelle Alozie informed the team administration that she would be having surgery.

Madugu has summoned Peace Efih, who is based in Portugal, to take up Ayinde's place once more.

Christy Ucheibe, a midfielder for the Rivers Angels, will be replaced by Motunrayo Ezekiel. Ucheibe is unable to fly from her base in Portugal to Nigeria.

There was criticism for Oshoala a five-time women's footballer of the year stating she had no impact as the Super Falcons of Nigeria played a 1-1 draw with Ethiopia.
