Toni Payne joins Everton from Sevilla
Toni Payne, a forward for Nigeria, has officially joined Everton.
The 29-year-old, who is capable of playing all over the front line, is Brian Sorensen's first summer acquisition. He comes to the Club following a six-year stint in Spain with Sevilla.
Payne, who has 21 caps for Nigeria, was a member of the Super Eagles team that participated in the Australia and New Zealand 2023 World Cup finals. The team lost to England in the round of 16 by a small margin.
Speaking to Everton TV on the move she said, “I’m super excited to be an Everton player.
“It’s been my dream to play in the UK and in such a strong league like the WSL.
“I’m excited to have the opportunity to play at a club like Everton with so much history in football.
“Now was the right moment for me to look for another challenge to push myself.
“It’s going to be different and new, and I’m really happy about my decision.”
Playing against some of the best players in the English premier league, according to Payne, has further strengthened her desire to relocate to Merseyside.
Nigeria faced Heather Payne and Courtney Brosnan, two of Payne's new Blues colleagues, as well as the Republic of Ireland during that World Cup campaign.
Both have grown much during their time at Everton, and Payne says she is excited about the chance to advance under boss Sorensen's direction.
