Bayer Leverkusen confirms surgery for Super Eagles star Victor Boniface who is out until April.

According to his social media profiles, Bayer Leverkusen attacker Victor Boniface will not play in the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Ivory Coast because of a knee injury.

The 23-year-old suffered the injury at the Super Eagles training camp in Abu Dhabi.

This season, he has wowed the Bundesliga with 10 goals and seven assists.

Terem Moffi, a striker for Nice, has been called up as a possible substitute, subject to Confederation of African Football (CAF) and club consent.

Bayer Leverkusen confirms surgery for Boniface

Bayer Leverkusen has now taken to social media to give an update on his injury.

They confirmed he will need surgery and will be out until April.

The statement by Leverkusen said, "We wish you a speedy recovery, Boni! 🙏

"@boniface_jrn suffered a muscle-tendon injury in the right adductor area.

"Our striker will undergo surgery in the coming days and is expected to be out of action until early April. 🤕"

Along with Leicester City midfielder Wilfred Ndidi, Nottingham Forest attacker Taiwo Awoniyi, and maybe Leicester forward Kelechi Iheanacho, who missed the training camp, Boniface is another Nigerian player ruled out of the AFCON due to injury.

On social media, Boniface expressed his disappointment, stating that he is heartbroken to miss the AFCON, mirroring his absence from the 2021 U20 Africa Cup of Nations.

The three-time AFCON winners Nigeria will play their opening Group A match on January 14 against Equatorial Guinea.

They will then play their remaining matches against Guinea-Bissau and the hosts, Ivory Coast.
