While fans were gushing over Yanga’s unveiling of Ugandan defender Gift Fred, the Tanzania champions held no reservations after signing Jonas Mkude from arch-rivals Simba SC.
Mkude, a defensive midfielder, is a product of Simba SC youth ranks crossed to the yellow and green side of Dar Es Salaam after 13 years with the Red Army.
The 30-year-old is one of Yanga’s latest signings in the transfer window, but his unveiling video is one for the books.
In a 44-second-animated video, Mkude makes his way to a stadium in Yanga’s jerseys while holding a panga.
He majestically walks to the centre of the pitch before an enraged lion charges at him. The lion in this animated video is a cryptic reference to Simba SC.
Mkude wrestles the lion and cuts his head; he then raises the head of the lion showcasing it to the crowd amidst wild cheers.
The controversial video has so far attracted over 250,000 views by press time.
