My hope for World Championships is high - Hana Goda

The talented teenager admitted after the match that her hope for the World Championships is high.

She said, “I’m ranked high in the tournament, but then also this match being the first one is a little nerve-wracking with a lot of expectations put on me. But I really didn’t think about them, I thought I have to play my best, do good and just play, and thankfully I won.

Hana Goda set to make history in Durban

“I started out really well; I was leading 3-0. I was going to win the fourth set but I lost. I thought ‘my goodness. No let me win!’ And when it was 11-10 in the fifth to her, I thought, ‘okay, are we going to stay around here for a while?’ I was a little nervous because she was stepping up her game. She was getting the serves that she was missing. The match started to get tougher. I was nervous that if it became 3-2, I would be even more nervous!.”

Goda will battle Li Yu-Jhun in round 64 of the championships on Tuesday.
