Paris 2024: Nigeria's Ogunkunle defeats World No. 3 to advance to quarterfinals

Ogunkunle rallied from a set down to win the match 3-1, securing a spot in the quarterfinals.

Isau Ogunkunle has caused a major upset in the men's singles SL4 para-table tennis event, defeating World No. 3 Abdullah Ozturk of Turkey in the round of 16.

Ogunkunle came back from a set down to win the match 3-1 (11-6, 6-11, 7-11, 10-12) to secure a place in the quarterfinals and make him the second Nigerian player to reach this stage of the para-table tennis competition.

Eniola Bolaji Wins Nigeria's First Paralympic Medal

Meanwhile, Eniola Bolaji made history for Nigeria by securing the country's first medal at the 2024 Paralympic Games in Paris.

Bolaji won a bronze medal in the women's singles SL3 para-badminton event. She became the first Nigerian and African athlete to win a medal in the sport at the Paralympics.

Bolaji secured her spot in the last four by defeating India's Mandeep Kaur 2-0 (21-8, 21-9) in the women's singles SL3 quarter-finals.

However, the 18-year-old suffered defeat in the semi-final to a Zuxian (21-16, 21-17) before she bounced back to win bronze.

Nigeria's para-athletes are making a strong impression at the Paralympic Games.
