The achievement follows his impressive run to the semi-finals of the 2025 WTT Star Contender Doha.

Aruna, who was previously ranked 21st, climbed up the rankings after a strong showing at the tournament.

Victories over Spain’s Alvaro Robles and Korea’s Park Ganghyeon propelled him to the semi-final stage. This marked the second time Aruna has reached the semi-finals of a WTT Star Contender event, making him the only African male player to achieve this feat twice.

His semi-final opponent was Japan’s Tomokazu Harimoto, the tournament's top seed. Harimoto proved too strong for Aruna, winning the match in straight sets (11-9, 11-3, 11-5) and preventing Aruna from reaching the final.

Despite the defeat, Aruna's performance in Doha earned him valuable ranking points, resulting in his historic move into the world's top 20.
