The African U-19 Champion bowed out in the first round

The African U-19 Champion, Taiwo Matti, has bowed out of the WTT Feeder Dusseldorf 2023 after falling to Cheng-Jui Kao of Chinese Taipei 3-0 in the first round of the men's singles.

The Asian youngster defeated the Nigerian Mati in a match that lasted less than an hour, despite Mati receiving a bye to the men's singles round of 64. Mati fell 11-4, 11-5, and 11-9.

I need to work hard to face my opponents - Matti

The West African champion claimed that events like the WTT Feeder Düsseldorf 2023 would introduce young players to elite athletes and various playing philosophies.

“It was a difficult match for me against an Asian player, he admitted. He was more tactical and too fast for me to understand and before I could get into the game, it was a bit late and this showed that I need to work harder to be able to face any opponent.

“I am so excited with my attendance in the competition because it has exposed my weaknesses to me and this is another way to develop and improve one’s game. I hope I can attend more such competitions in near future,” he added.

The 2023 WTT Singapore Smash is scheduled to take place next month, and Mati, who is 17 years old, is thrilled to be mentioned.

“I am delighted that I made the final list for the Singapore Smash and I am really looking forward to the tournament where only the best will be present in Singapore. I will have to redouble my efforts to ensure I perform well in the competition,” Mati said.

Egypt’s duo of Ahmed Saleh and Omar Assar will start their campaign in the second round (last 32) of the men’s singles championship.
