The event, which kicked off on Monday, June 12, at Nairobi Club, will end Saturday, June 17.

Reigning Wimbledon junior doubles champion Angella Okutoyi showcased her exceptional skills and determination as she triumphed in her opening match of the Billie Jean King Cup tourney.

Taking on the formidable opponent, El Allami Malak from Morocco, Okutoyi displayed her prowess on the court and emerged victorious in commanding fashion.

The match, held at the esteemed Nairobi Club, witnessed Okutoyi's masterful performance as she dominated her opponent throughout the encounter.

From the outset, it was evident that the 18-year-old star meant business as her powerful and accurate shots put immense pressure on Malak, leaving her struggling to keep up.

Okutoyi's exceptional footwork and tactical play allowed her to dictate the rhythm of the match, leaving her opponent on the back foot.

The first set proved to be a closely contested battle, with both players displaying their skills and determination.

Okutoyi showcased her mental resilience and composure during crucial points, ultimately securing a 7-5 victory in the set.

As the match progressed, Okutoyi's confidence soared, and she continued to exhibit her exceptional shot-making abilities.

Her consistent serves, precise groundstrokes, and well-executed volleys ensured that Allami Malak remained on the defensive but could not match the relentless onslaught from Okutoyi.

In a testament to her remarkable performance, Okutoyi sealed her triumph in the second set with a convincing score of 6-3.

Okutoyi is returning to the tournament, having missed last year's event as the tourney coincided with the Junior Wimbledon tournament.

After struggling in last year's competition in Skopje, North Macedonia, Kenya aims for an improved performance, where Asumwa, Wanjala, and Owegi finished 11th out of 14 countries.
