Czech Republic’s superstar Marketa Vondrousova has made history at Wimbledon after winning her first-ever Grand Slam title.
On Saturday, Vondrousova defeated Ons Jabeur in straight sets in the Women’s final to be crowned the 2023 Wimbledon champion.
She sealed the historic deal courtesy of a ruthless 6-4, 6-4 performance at the centre court.
Vondrousova makes history
The Czech star was unseeded in what was her first-ever appearance in Wimbledon as a player.
So, heading into the competition, she was unseeded but has now gone all the way to claims the coveted title.
Following her stunning and impressive victory over Jabeur, the world number 42 becomes the first-ever player to win the Wimbledon unseeded in the Ladies’ Singles.
According to a post by the competition’s social media page, Vondrousova attended the competition last year as a tourist.
After the win, the champion revealed a bet she had with her coach.
“I made a bet with my coach, he said if I win a Grand Slam he is also going to get one,” she stated moments after the win.
Before her shocking victory, Vondrousova had never gone past the second round at the Championships won five games in a row en route to her historic win.
