The Vemp International Wheelchair Tennis Open is the first of a doubles tournament that is slated for February 5-7.
The World Team Cup African Qualifier event will follow and is scheduled to take place from February 8–11.
The tournaments will help players earn ranking points
The tournament director, Musa Saidu, revealed that the tournaments would allow players to earn points.
The two international competitions will be held in Abuja next month, according to Saidu.
"In February, NTF will hold two international competitions in Abuja; Vemp International Wheelchair Tennis Open and World Team Cup African Qualifier. The Vemp International Wheelchair Tennis Open will hold from 5th to 7th while the African Qualifier holds between 8th to 11th of February.
"Despite time constraints, the federation decided to include the two international competitions to help tennis players brush up and earn vital ranking points, " he told BSN
32 players to battle for $3,000
Nothing less than 32 players will battle for the championship in Nigeria.
16 women and 16 men from Morocco, Egypt, Kenya, Tanzania, and Nigeria will jostle for the $3,000 championship.
Players from Morocco, Egypt, Kenya, Ghana, Tanzania, and Nigeria will fight for the African ticket to the World Cup.
The total prize money for the championship is $3,000.
Recall that Pulse Sports reported that Team Nigeria won the West/Central African Junior Tennis Championship in Togo.
The championship is a qualification tournament for the African Junior Tennis Championship later this year.
