The newly formed team made history by collecting their first win in the KVF league.
Debutants Post Bank recorded their maiden win over Vihiga in the first leg of the Kenya Volleyball Federation (KVF) women's league which began on Saturday, February 25 at the Nyayo National Stadium.
Despite having less time to practice before the league, Post Bank put up a good fight to win 3-1. They began the match with a 25-19 win in the first set before going down 23-25 in the second set.
Post Bank then played a tactical game that saw them secure a 25-16 and 25-21 win in their third and fourth sets respectively.
Coach Vernon Kainga expressed his excitement and fired warning shots to opponents ahead of the second leg.
Post Bank had a rude welcome to the league as they lost their opening match to Kenya Defense Forces (KDF).
Speaking on their 0-3 loss (18-25, 23-25, and 16-25), Kainga defended the young team saying they had only trained for three weeks before the league and had little to no experience.
He noted that the team played well and with proper training, they will definitely do better in their next matches.
"We had just recruited a young team and started training three weeks ago. This is a young team and they need more training time," he noted.
Kainga said the win over Vihiga who have played in the league before comes as massive motivation to the players and going forward, they will gather experience to win matches.
"In the next leg, you will be able to see a huge difference in our players. They now believe that we can also win," he said.
In another match played, Kenya Prisons stunned Nairobi Water to win 3-0 in straight sets of 25-12, 25-16, and 25-18 respectively.
In their match against Vihiga on Saturday, Prisons also maintained their hot streak to mark a 3-0 win in sets of 25-9, 25-13, and 25-13.
Meanwhile, KCB silenced KDF 3-0 in an entertaining match that saw the Bankers win in straight sets of 25-14, 25-20, and 25-18.
Focus now shifts to the second leg of the KVF league title.
