Uganda Volleyball Lady Cranes have stormed the CAVB Women’s African Nations Volleyball Championship quarter-finals following a commanding 3-0 win over Burkina Faso Sunday afternoon in Yaounde, Cameroon.
Tonny Lakony’s charges were in demolition mode and made light work of the Burkinabe to conclude their Group B action with a respectable 3-2 record and squeeze themselves into the last eight of the continental showpiece.

VOLLEYBALL Uganda Volleyball Cranes battered by Kenya
The Malkia Strikers took the first set 25-15 and despite a spirited fight by Uganda in the second frame, it was still the nine-time champions who raced into a 2-0 lead with a 25-16 triumph.
Coming off back-to-back losses to Kenya and Rwanda, Uganda required a result against Burkina Faso to guarantee themselves a place in the quarter-final and it was a perfect performance as the team cruised through the three sets to get back to winning ways.
The moment Uganda started on the front foot and took the first set 25-14, there was no way back for the West Africans, who struggled to get past the Lady Cranes’ defence.
Uganda then took the second and third frames 25-12 and 25-18, respectively, to register their third win of the tournament.

VOLLEYBALL Not good enough -Uganda Volleyball Lady Cranes fall to Rwanda
Despite a spirited start that saw Tonny Lakony’s charges leading 3-0 early in the first set, Rwanda bounced back to edge the frame 25-20 and take the lead.
The first pass to the setter was a lot better, and that helped Uganda’s offence to bite and leave Burkina Faso in a spot of bother.
The win means that Uganda are through to the quarter-finals and have already registered the team’s best-ever finish. Uganda finished ninth in 2009 but now have the opportunity to move further up and record an even better placement.
With the Volleyball Cranes finishing fifth in the men’s championship two years ago, the Lady Cranes will be looking to match that performance or go even further up by making the semi-finals.
